Social Media is Hard Work

Since launching RiverGlass Creations™ on the web I have learned much about social media and maybe in some ways not enough. It is a fantastic tool when it comes to staying connected with family and friends, and the possibility of spreading the word for our jewelry business is amazing. This internet phenom continues to grow and with so many different venues to choose from I often wonder how long sites like Facebook and Twitter will stay on top. With so many sites vying for attention, one has to wonder what the next big thing will be. Not too long ago it was MySpace that commanded the net, but its run was short lived as Facebook came along and triumphed over it. Now, MySpace seems obsolete. Does anyone still use it? Sites like Pinterest, Squidoo, and Digg offer different options and work well with Twitter and Facebook. Being somewhat behind the times Houzz is another interest sharing site that I just learned about this morning and look forward to checking out.

The effort alone to stay on top of all of the new up and coming social sites is tiring let alone trying to master and effectually use them for business purposes. The internet has a tendency to suck a person in for hours without managing to complete anything! Trying to promote business as well as maintaining a life off of the computer seems impossible some days. Either the process is time consuming or when I do finally leave my computer in sleep mode I am totally fried!

One plus that minimizes effort is the ability to write a single blog post and then share it on all of the social sites I am affiliated with regardless of how proficient I am in each one individually. So once I finish with this particular post, I will re-post to Twitter, Facebook, Digg..... and the list could go on. Some of you have even arrived at this page because you followed one of those links. Amazing!

While you are here be sure to answer our poll question at the right of the page! Thank you!
